Go somewhere

create something

loves someone

Travel on the bed,

gets bogged down in time

Not being in love even myself

be as I can be

Be as much as I have become

go as far as I can go

go as far as I have been

love as much as I can

love as much as not being loved

— Wiwat Lertwiwatwongsa

I squint my eyes to examine my memories of places, from a cabin of a flying plane, a reflection on a mirror at Times Square, an arch in Turin, a wetland in Vieng Nong Lom, to a riverbank of the Kong river. Through the eyes of “a visitor” in these unfamiliar spaces, I observe the perpetual cycle of migration. The history of drawn borders reminiscent of the scars left by the Yalta Conference has concealed physical traces of displacement within these landscapes. This leads to an endeavor to search for the thin, disappearing line that separates reality, dream, and memory of the people who have been stripped away from their roots by shifting powers.

It is not my wish to create a perfect painting in order to announce explicit messages; the painting itself is merely my own observation of fleeting states and physical remnants. To paint is a process to transform something intangible that happens in an instant into tangible evidence through layered strokes. Merged to the point of being unrecognizable with the existing past.

These artworks and material evidence share the same destination, towards decay and ceasing to exist, no different than fading memories. On the contrary, outer environments like the twilight glow ('Phi Tak Pha Om') continue to exist in the liminality between light and shadow. As quiet as a poem, this exhibition is not only a remnant from those trips, but also an invitation for people to face the ambiguity of our shared historical wounds, and embrace how fragile our memory is. The state of “wandering” here may not be for searching for a goal, but to submerge oneself into a space in the middle, aimlessly waiting, and willingly become a part of the traces of a wandering displacement… Until the time one can peacefully close their eyes in a quiet place somewhere.
