Reflecting on her views about life, Pare Patcharapa paints. Her personal experiences and contemplations about lives have inspired her to create art that, at a glance, appears to be ordinary figurative portraits and expressive landscape paintings. Nevertheless, they are complex and entangled with multiple layers, ranging from her personal emotions to socio-political critique.

Pare consistently adds layers of paint to what was once a blank canvas, shaping an embossed figure that goes beyond a mere image. The act of painting, for her, is a cumulative process—a continuous addition of layers that mirror the evolving nature of emotions and her views about life, and, of course, social and un-ignorable institutional issues. It is stimulating to navigate the space and engage with Pare in conversations about the meaning of her works. You get to peek into her mind as she opens her studio for this solo exhibition, creating a cozy environment for discussing works, lives, and politics. Or perhaps, you can simply have a beer or two with her.

The notion that a painting reflects the essence of its process holds true in Pare’s works, where each stroke contributes to an unfolding self-reflection of thoughts and emotions. The painting we observe finished and on display today might be transformed into a new piece in the near future, regenerating from a completed one. Pare often paints over her works, transforming them into an ever-evolving work.

The exhibition, Regeneration, consists of a series of portraits, figurative paintings, landscapes, a drawing, and a mirror, capturing a spectrum of emotions from cynical hopefulness to anxiety under the ill-structured nature of Thai society. ‘Regeneration’ offers a snapshot of Pare’s extensive and ongoing artistic process. What is meant to be seen today carries its intended meanings; however, it may regenerate and reform—like a living organism—into something else in the future beyond our current perception. Perhaps it is appropriate to say ‘because it's only just begun.’
